FACELIFT/NECKLIFT PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT:
Dr. Rizk's philosophy is a customized facelift and necklift with jawline and cheek definition. Dr. Rizk does many different types of facelift and necklift surgery and customizes the lift to your face and degree of aging. One lift does not fit all patients and Dr. Rizk does not have a "signature procedure" because each face is different.
Dr. Rizk's philosophy in his lifts is a natural lift which avoids the "pulled" look of older skin lifts. He also does a facelift which not only makes a patient look YOUNGER, but also MORE ATTRACTIVE. This is an important concept because Dr. Rizk's facelifts also reposition volume from the jowls into the cheeks. He lifts in the deeper layers which encompass not only skin and muscle, but ALSO jowl FAT. This repositioning of volume is important because it creates definition, rather than just "tightness" and it looks more natural. The loose muscles in the neck are pulled and tightened behind the ears and also in the middle under the chin from a small incision under the chin.
Dr. Rizk also pioneered the use of 3-Dimentional high definition telescope systems to visualize the face better in the deeper planes, making it a much safer procedure which avoids blood vessels and other structures. With this 3D telescope technology, the scars are smaller and the recuperation is faster because the surgery becomes very precise. Rapid recovery is just as important for Dr. Rizk's New York City Park Avenue practice as is a natural and long-lasting result.
Widely respected for his advanced minimally invasive application of ground breaking surgical techniques, Dr. Sam Rizk's approach is based on philosophy that each individual procedure is tailored and customized to the individual needs of each patient. He uses minimally invasive endoscopic techniques to reduce downtime. Dr. Rizk is focused not only on a natural result but also on the speed of a patient's recovery. To optimize this intent Dr. Rizk uses preoperative as well as intraoperative and postoperative minimally invasive techniques and medications to achieve this rapid healing.

A new article on ArabianBusiness.com discusses how the demand of plastic surgery is on the rise. The reporter suggests that part of the 33% increase in the number of procedures in the last two years can be attributed to rising popularity of taking selfies that focus much of the shot on a person face, zeroing in on flaws and deformities. Dr. Rizk explains that he often sees patients who use filters on apps like Instagram to show him how they would like to look like following surgery. For him, it is a sign they “would rather enhance their own natural beauty than look like somebody else.” Click here to read the full article: http://www.arabianbusiness.com/selfie-craze-sees-33-rise-in-plastic-surgery-586175.html

For Dr. Rizk, the most rewarding part of facial plastic surgery is really changing a patient’s life and being able to witness that happiness firsthand. Dr. Rizk received this card from a former patient whom he performed a revision rhinoplasty on. This patient had two previous nosejobs that resulted in emotional and physical scarring. Dr. Rizk corrected the functional and aesthetic concerns and is happy to report that the patient is doing phenomenally well.

This is a lip lift on a 55 yo female who has a long distance between her mouth and her upper lip. Fillers alone would not help this patient as it would push lips too much forward rather than upwards. The postoperative picture is only 6 days postoperatively so patient is still red and stitches are still dissolving.

Dr. Sam Rizk is featured in an American Health & Beauty article discussing the increase of necklift surgery in women. Read more about why women consider getting a neck lift over a facelift by clicking here. Dr. Rizk believes women get necklifts because they tend to pay more attention to their face than necks. This can increase collagen loss and allow wrinkles to form.

The results of a facelift may look unnatural when incisions are made in the wrong locations, when too much lifting occurs in certain areas, and/or when the wrong procedure or combination of procedures are performed, among other factors.
To avoid these issues, choose an experienced facial plastic surgeon with a natural sense of artistry, such as Dr. Rizk.
To avoid an unnatural look, Dr. Rizk is careful to place the incisions strategically. This helps avoid the classic “wind-blown” look many patients fear. He also keeps lifting to a minimum in certain areas such as the upper face and lateral orbital area, while lifting more in the deep plane near the jowl and neck.
Dr. Rizk also tailors treatment to the patient to prevent an unnatural look. In other words, he assesses each patient’s needs to determine if a facelift or perhaps a combination of procedures will work best for the patient. If you do have a facelift, supplemental treatments may be recommended, such as Restylane to fill in the nasolabial folds.
Dr. Rizk also uses tissue glues whenever possible in order to eliminate the need for drains and certain incisions.
Recovery is an important factor in attaining a positive, natural outcome from your facelift procedure. For this reason, Dr. Rizk often recommends having a private plastic surgery nurse to monitor swelling and other issues. He will also likely advise you to use arnica montana and other postoperative skin products, and he may prescribe you medications for optimal healing.
What skin care regimen should I follow after a facelift? Is there a difference with age? 40 vs 50 vs 60?
August 6th, 2013
Caring for your skin following a facelift is more complicated than with less-invasive procedures. In addition to everyday skin care you will need to properly care for your wounds and control any swelling.
The general guidelines for skin care after a facelift are essentially the same whether a patient is 40, 50 or 60 years of age. However, older patients do heal slower, so measures taken to aid healing may be even more important in older patients.
Skin care after a facelift is often a continuation of your preoperative regimen. In your initial consultation with your surgeon, he or she may prescribe you specific skin care products to use both before and after your surgery.¬ These products can help to minimize discoloration and brown spots as well as get rid of dead skin cells.
To minimize swelling your surgeon will likely advise you to keep your head elevated while sleeping, and use cold compresses, for a few days. He or she may also recommend using herbal remedies such as arnica montana.
It is important to avoid the sun — as well as topical treatments or cosmeceuticals — for at least a few days. This is especially true with procedures like facelift where there are open wounds or broken skin. However, you will need to apply antibiotic ointment to your wounds until they have healed.
After the first few days your surgeon may advise you to use products to avoid discoloration, and to use sunscreen with an SPF of about 40. (Stronger sunscreens can block your pores, which is not good for healing.)
While your wounds are healing, avoid picking at them, as this can lead to scarring or infection.
Finally, hydration is an important part of your skin care regimen after a facelift. Drink at least six glasses of water per day. This helps rejuvenate the skin and flush out toxins.
